I found this last year, but it’s still cool and relatively current. As the creator calls it, the following map “…pins down nearly 300 of the most successful and influential websites to the greater Tokyo area train map.” What I like about it the most is that it really maps out most of the websites one probably should know if they’re curious about the recent trends in the Internet. For people like me, it shows me any of the holes in my constant desire to stay “up to date” with all the technological trends.
I couldn’t capture the entire image of the map in one shot and so here’s the bottom right part of it. If you’ve ever seen the Japanese subway system, you would understand how complicated and large the system is. As a result, this map does need a bit of space to cover. Here’s the 2nd part of the map.
The creator who made this here on Information Architects is planning on to release the 4th version of this web trends map. Yes, the one I’ve snapped above is only version 3.0. I don’t know what the guy did for versions 2 and 1, but you can check them out on his website. He (actually, it looks like two guys: Oliver Reichenstein & his Information Designer Matt Gerber) is soliciting any other opinions on who they should place on v. 4 of their new web trends map. The tags below will show you the list of websites, web public figures & leaders and other “web trend” like items they believe should be on the map for now.
